Reels

We have three popular brands - Penn, Daiwa, and Shimano. I use Penn. They're cheaper, but still very reliable. They also look way cooler than the others! It's probably something I've got from childhood when I saw pictures of these golden spinning reels used to catch big fish. Growing up in Sweden we didn't need any of that.

The reels need to be water proof. Salt water proof! They're constantly drenched in salt water. Hence we look for an IPX rating of at least 5. I feel bad for my reels, they've been through so much pain. Yet they're still holding up even after five years. I do rinse them religiously every time, but I'm still surprised that they've held up.

You do need to service them. I do it once every year or as needed. The lubricants will have become a bit dirty and some spots will have a bit of corrosion. Otherwise they're all good.
