About

I grew up in Sweden and moved to Australia in 2001. I've been fishing my whole life, but mostly in a small stream and occasionally with my uncle up on Orust in Sweden's western archipelago.

I fished in Australia every now and then, but didn't think it was possible to catch decent fish without a boat.

In 2019 I met Byron and Jaiden from Sea Ulcer who were using their Sky Rigger product to catch tuna right from the beach using a drone. Mind blown! I started researching drones and even got half the gear. In the midst of this, COVID-19 happened and we were in lockdown.

I've lived on the beach for many years, right on Palm Beach Reef. I'd seen the boats and had even been out there a couple of times, but I had never taken notice of the fishing kayaks!

In March 2020 I was up early enough to watch every sunrise for a month, and the COVID lockdown had given heaps of people ample time to get on the water. I typed in "offshore kayak fishing" on YouTube and watched just about every video from Rokkit in one stretch (thanks Rod!).

Next, I rented a kayak from AKS and after the first try I asked them to buy it. I've been obsessed ever since. I now live exclusively off fish (I'm pescetarian) and am so grateful for everything offshore kayak fishing has brought me.

Why This Website

I get a lot of questions from people and want to have a place to point to. I'm also a bit forgetful, so it's good as a reminder for myself. Hopefully it can help others too!

Why Fishing

At first you want to catch a fish. Then you want to catch lots of fish. Then you want to catch big fish. Then you want to catch difficult fish. Eventually, you just want to go fishing.

This is the same journey I've been on. These days I just want to catch fish, with the caveat that it's fish that's sustainable and good to eat.

The lifestyle is amazing - nature, adventure, great food, and a connection with family, friends, and the community that one wouldn't otherwise have. There's also something deeply primal about catching your own food.

Why Kayak Fishing

Where I live in Australia we've got big waves hitting the shore up and down the coast, right where the offshore fishing spots are. Most people get a boat or a jetski, queue up at the boat ramp in the dark, and then boat sometimes up to 45 minutes to get there.

With the right kayak we can get out right at the spot. I also like that kayaking is quiet, no smell of fuel, and you have your own little cockpit where you're really close to the action.

The clean up is a lot easier than a boat too and I like the exercise. I've been surfing for a long time so going through the surf is mostly just exciting. If there's no fishing out front you can simply load the kayak onto the roof of the car and drive to other spots.
